MSSA 39th Annual American Cancer Society Regatta

The Mount Sinai Sailing Association has sponsored The American Cancer Society Regatta for many years. We are very proud that our Regatta is the second longest running Charity Regatta in the United States. During that time we have raised over a half a million dollars for the American Cancer Society. The ACS Regatta has been nationally recognized and has been featured in Sailing World magazine among others.

This year we'd like to offer special thanks to the wonderful folks at Mather Hospital. With this year's event, they are reaching their 30th year of Regatta sponsorship. We deeply appreciate their commitment and support!

Our most recent ACS Regatta was held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, with a rollicking post-race party immediately following. A total of 35 yachts were entered in 5 divisions, but more importantly MSSA was able to raise over $20,000 for the American Cancer Society. There's no better way to spend a day on and off the water!

Please note that this year, due to the ongoing challenges from Coronavirus, we have decided to not run our usual post-race extravaganza party and awards presentation, for a variety of reasons.  Among those reasons, the capacity at the Yacht Club is limited under indoor dining restrictions.  It would be difficult to plan any party with the possibility of changing regulations that might ultimately prevent our usage of that facility. In addition, the party and raffle are funded entirely by donations from our local restaurants and businesses.  We don't think it appropriate to be asking local businesses for anything right now as many are struggling to stay solvent.

We CAN use our Go Fund Me Virtual Regatta! Without the party we may not have a banner fundraising year, but we can still endeavour to make a difference. You don’t even have to be entered in the actual regatta — just set up a team and raise money for this worthy cause! To set up your "team", just do the following:

  1. Go to https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/mssa-39th-annual-acs-regatta and click the “Join” button in the middle of the page.
  2. You’ll next be given the option of joining an existing team, or creating your own. Select the “Create your own team” option to set up your own team.
  3. The system will walk you through a few steps to name your fundraiser, provide a description, add one or more snazzy pictures for your team, and set a fundraising goal. You’ll also see tools to help you “get the word out” through Facebook posts, email messages, Tweets (for those of the Twitter persuasion), and LinkedIn posts. Easy, fast, fun — and remarkably effective.

So, please join us on Saturday, September 26, 2020 for the on-the-water activities for this year's Regatta. As always, thanks to you all for your support of this great cause!

Whether or not you plan to compete in the on-the-water race, you can join our online fundraising effort to help us surpass last year's donations. Go to https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/mssa-39th-annual-acs-regatta to get involved, either by starting your own fundraising team (click the "Join" button) or by making a contribution to one or more of the teams you'll find there (click the "Donate" button). It's fun, it's easy, and best of all it supports this worthy cause in the most meaningful way, by providing funding for cancer research!
