MSSA 42nd Annual American Cancer Society Regatta

RACE FOR A CAUSE

The Mount Sinai Sailing Association has sponsored The American Cancer Society Regatta for many years. We are very proud that our Regatta is the second longest running Charity Regatta in the United States. During that time we have raised over a half a million dollars for the American Cancer Society. The ACS Regatta has been nationally recognized and has been featured in Sailing World magazine among others.

For this year's Regatta, we'd like to offer special thanks to two of our sister clubs for their support of this event:

  • Deep thanks to MSYC for their continued support, including use of their facility for the After-Race-Party; and
  • Sincere appreciation to PJYC, who have graciously offered the use of their Committee Boat, and will supply a limited amount of guest moorings for our out-of-town participants.

With the help of local organizations like MSYC and PJYC, this MSSA event will be successful, and can continue for years to come.  We truly appreciate their commitment and support!

Our most recent ACS Regatta was held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, with a rollicking post-race party immediately following.MSSA was able to raise over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society. There's no better way to spend a day on and off the water!

We will also encourage online fundraising via our American Cancer Society Virtual Regatta! This is the best way to ensure we have a banner fundraising year. You don’t even have to be entered in the actual regatta — just set up a team and raise money for this worthy cause. Note that there is no entry fee required to participate in this virtual regatta!

To set up your "team", just do the following:

  1. Point your browser to http://acsengage.org/MSSA. Once there, click the “Sign Up” button at the top right of the page.
  2. You’ll next be asked to log in or create a new account if you don't yet have one. If this is your first time in, click the "CREATE AN ACCOUNT" link and follow the instructions.
  3. Once you're logged in, you'll be given the option of starting your own team, joining an existing team, or participating as an individual. Click on "start a team".  The system will walk you through a few steps to name your fundraiser and set your fundraising goal, and to indicate whether you're participating with a group; click the "Enter your company, school, or club" button and enter MSSA.
  4. The next few screens will ask for your personal registration and are pretty straightforward. You'll be offered to "kickstart" your fundraiser with an initial donation if you're so inclined.
  5. Once that's all complete, you'll be taken to your Dashboard, where you can customize your fundraiser. Scroll down a bit and you'll find big blue rectangle; click on its little "edit pencil" to upload one or two photos - please do so with a snazzy picture or two of your boat! You can also personalize the "Why I support" description, and you’ll also see tools to help you “get the word out” through Facebook posts and/or email messages. Easy, fast, fun — and remarkably effective.
