MSSA Social Event Information

MSSA members enjoy a balance between on- and off-the-water activities. Besides the spring, summer and fall racing and scheduled cruises, our club also sponsors numerous social events.

  • During the summer, the MSSA has a Family Fun Day with a Beach BBQ at Flax Pond and we also get together under the big tent for a Lobster Bake.
  • MSSA hosts a post-race barbecue, raffle, and awards presentation following the American Cancer Society Regatta.
  • In the fall is our End of the Season/Awards Dinner Dance.
  • Regular meetings are held the second Monday of each month from October to May at the Mount Sinai Yacht Club at 244 Harbor Beach Rd., Mt. Sinai, New York at 7:30 pm. See our Master Calendar page for the next meeting date and directions. Prospective members are always welcome at meetings!

2023 Social Events

Memorial Day Raft Up

Monday, May 29 at 2:00PM, Mount Sinai Mooring

Celebrate the “official” start of the Summer by hanging out with the MSSA on the Mount Sinai Mooring. Raft Ups are the best way to meet new people in the club, and to show off all the work you have recently done on your boat. Come on over and bring food to grill and munchies to eat. Never been to a Raft Up? Don’t worry we will bring you in for a safe landing! Bring your fenders and dock lines!

Independence Day Raft Up

Monday, July 3 at 2:00PM, Mount Sinai Mooring

What better way to celebrate the birth of our country then by hanging out with your MSSA friends and proudly flying your American Flag or Yacht Ensign? Bring your food and drink and swim the day away. Extra Bonus: If you stay till evening you get an awesome view of the fireworks from the mooring and don’t have to brave the insanity of the inlet! Never been to a Raft Up? Don’t worry we will bring you in for a safe landing! Bring lots of fenders and dock lines!

MSSA Sunset Cruises

Friday, May 26; Friday, June 9; Friday, July 14; and Friday, August 11 at 7:00PM, Race Mark A (Mount Sinai Harbor Entrance)

These events have become our most well-attended - and it's no wonder, since they're so much fun! We'll start at Race Mark A just outside the harbor entrance at 7pm and then enjoy a relaxing sail in company around a course to be selected based on wind and weather. Monitor VHF channel 68 for the course announcement and other advisories Don’t forget to bring your camera for some great Sunset shots and pictures of members' boats under sail! Join the party gathering afterwards at the tower picnic tables for some great MSSA camaraderie.

MSSA Lobster Bake at Old Man's Boat Yard

Saturday, July 22 at 6:00 PM

The Lobster Bake will be held Rain or Shine! You can‘t miss our Annual Lobster Bake!! Come on down to Old Man’s Boat yard for the Best Lobster Bake on the North Shore. The feast begins at 6:00pm. Because of the difficulty of knowing how many lobsters to order for the Bake, orders are taken in advance of the event (details will follow in the newsletter and via e-mails). Please note that burgers and hot dogs are also available for those non-lobster lovers. Corn on the Cob and baked potatoes are included as well. Beer, Wine and Soda will be provided. Side dishes and desserts brought by our members are always welcome. In addition, we need help to setup and cleanup for this event. Anyone who would like to help, please let the Rear Commodore know. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Don’t forget, you will need to bring your own tables & chairs.

Note: Please park your car up top (or if you are a member of MSYC, park in that lot) as space is limited down below.

Flax Pond Race/Summer Fun Day - Flax Pond

Saturday, August 19: Race at 10:00AM, Beach Gathering at 11:30AM

This is our annual Flax Pond Race/Summer Fun Day! The day starts off with a casual race from Mt. Sinai. The race starts at 10:00 am and will be a self-start. See the Race Schedule and Notes for more details. Due to conditions, we usually anchor separately on the east side of the inlet and meet on the beach. The Club will not be providing food this year. It’s BYO drinks and food that you and your crew might desire. Don’t forget to bring something to float on; as the tide goes in the channel, it makes for a great ride with the approaching tide taken into account. Water shoes, beach chairs and a beach umbrella are suggested.
